We love our Guatemala coffee…. here’s why:
Our current Guatemala selection is Finca Santa Rita. Certifications for this crop include OCIA-organic, Rain Forest Alliance and SMBC-Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. Wow, we love farmers who love their land and environment.
Santa Rita is part of the Echiverria family estates, which have been cultivating coffee since 1878. Many plants on their farms are over 100 years old. The grower is Dariush Echeverria Zachrisson – a 5th generation grower. The estate is located west of Guatemala City near lake Atitlan – considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
Finca Santa Rita is a sizeable estate, but only 96 hectares are dedicated to coffee farming while 286 hectares are now a forest preserve. For those of you (like me) who need that converted to acreage – that’s approximately 237 acres of coffee to 705 acres of forest.
The coffee is shade grown, fully washed and dried in the sun. Imbued with hints of lemon, honey and a dash of chocolate, it makes a fine cup of coffee. We also use it in some of our most popular blends. Look for Guatemala Finca Santa Rita in our bulk bins, or try some of the Instant Karma-Santa Rita blended with Java.
See you at the coffee shop…..
